This site is the product of a pilot project to test new approaches to digitizing, searching, and presenting water rights data in California. The pilot phase covers water rights in the Mono Basin.
Here's what you can do here:
Search for water rights by a range of attributes, then see how those rights fit with others along the same stream and by seniority.
Search more than 100,000 pages of digitized water rights documents for two example rights in the Mono Basin. Login required.
Send us an email with your name and some information about how you manage water rights data, and we'll email you back a login.
This database is a project of UC Berkeley Law’s Center for Law, Energy, & the Environment (CLEE) and the Water and Power Law Group PC to digitize Los Angeles Department of Water and Power’s water rights records in the Mono Basin. We undertook the project to test and demonstrate the feasibility of digitizing water rights records on a statewide basis. LADWP fully cooperated and provided funding. The Water Foundation and Imagine H2O also provided funding. GreenInfo Network is responsible for database design.
CLEE and WPLG’s report, Piloting a Water Rights Information System for California (2021), may be read and downloaded here.
